How to Publish Books through Amazon

As with most aspiring writers who are eager to see the fruit of labor becomes available for purchase everywhere with no restrictions on territories, I decided to venture on the surest and most possible way to reach readers world wide --- publishing through Amazon.com

I worked for three years to create this most unique platform of trivia quizzes that would set apart from other trivia quiz books available in the market. My goal is to provide the readers with a distinct experience of gaining new knowledge. Learning is fun and the world offers different avenues of learning, quiz trivia is one. Initially, I wanted to publish it locally.

I began searching Philippine publishing companies that accept manuscript submissions, I found some, but could not decide which one to choose. I tried preparing a query letter to notify some publishing companies about my first book project, but it did not go beyond the hard drive of my laptop, I let it stuck for a couple of years because every time I check the policies and guidelines of local publications, my Quiz book seems would not fit in.

Until I decided to submit it through Amazon, the world's leading online seller of all sorts of products , from electronic gadgets to apparels and books. Amazon also has a wide coverage of distributions making it a perfect place to penetrate the world audience.

Through Amazon platform, my book becomes available to global buyers which will increase a chance to boost sales. Not only that, since the world is now interactive and all stuff seems digital, Amazon has a Kindle store that would allow my book to be available in e-book format eventually reaching more readers, this is the edge of submitting to Amazon compare to local traditional publications which never offer an e-book version.

Right now, while sitting beside the window of the house I lived, pondering the weight of my decision in choosing the digital service of Amazon rather than the traditional local publication, I know I made the right decision.

So if you're an author too and contemplating to submit your manuscript for the first time to Amazon, check below tips based on my experience.

Here are steps how to successfully submit your book and be available in all Amazon outlets worldwide:
  • Ensure to finish and polish your manuscript
  • Review it carefully and proof read a hundred times to make sure it is free from errors and sounds appealing to your prospective readers.
  • Because Createspace, the print service of Amazon, does not recognize Fonts, you have to embed your fonts before converting your file to PDF.
  • Here's how to embed fonts:
    • In your word document, go to FILE, choose OPTION, check the "Embed Fonts"
    • Make sure you will unchecked other items below the embed font box
    • Click SAVE, then go back to your document.
  • If your book will be printed in black and white, convert your pictures (if your book has it) into Grayscale. Do not use the copy and paste buttons when adding pictures, instead use the "insert" button.
  • Make sure your pictures are at least 300 DPI (dot per inch), as Createspace is very strict with the image resolution. Pixel is different from DPI.
  • I got into trouble when I attempted to convert the images through Photoshop because it will change the pixel size of the image, so I downloaded Irfan View, which is better in re-sizing images into DPI.
  • Irfan View allows you to convert pictures into DPI without changing the Pixel size. Just open the picture, click Image then click "re-sizing", leave the pixel as it is, just change the DPI into 300 or 500.
  • If everything looks okay, convert the whole document into PDF.
  • Sign in for an account in Create Space www.createspace.com
  • Fill in the necessary details in Member's Dashboard.
  • Add the title of your book. You can change as long as it is not yet submitted for a review.
  • Upload your PDF file
  • You have options to create your digital cover or upload your own. In my case, I just created my book cover through digital solution of create space because it is a lot easier.
  • You will be prompted if the whole thing goes well or if it's not, there's an action required prompt that will appear.
  • If you will encounter trouble while undergoing the process of submission, reach out to their support team, they are quick to respond to your queries.
IMPORTANT TIPS IN SUBMITTING TO KINDLE

If you plan to make your book(s) available in Kindle store of Amazon, do not submit the PDF file of your interior (the body of your book) instead upload the word file. Your book does not appeal quite well when you submit it in a PDF file as Kindle seems could not recognize the formatting style of PDF.

In my case, I encountered several issues and mishaps in submitting my book, I think everyone would have the same experience if it's first time right? So I made several attempts and revisions.

The digital reviewer of Createspace anyway is very specific which part of the book needs revision. After I worked on it, I resubmitted the book and became okay after 24 hours.

There's nothing more fulfilling and exciting than to see your book becomes available in Amazon, so try it for yourself!

Kinks in Life

My favorite moment of the day is during weekends, in the afternoon at 4:30 when the weather is calm and the sun is no longer harsh. I would stay in the backyard, play with kittens and watch the trees as its leaves gently rustle under the caress of the soft afternoon air. Then I would throw my glance at the vivid skyline, stretching my stare as far as I could and see those magical white dots.

But beyond these shimmering lines of the dramatic horizon I know it’s not what I always wanted to see. It’s not what I am looking for. The blue horizon can be magical, soothing and provides relief, but it never constituents complete fulfillment. There seems to be always missing, that big hole that needs to be filled in.

The more I find ways to hurl the kinks in life, the more it grows like huge balloons ready to burst out. Though I am lucky in some ways and grateful with how a part of my existence is running, I am often find myself stuck in-between and cannot help but think why at times life can be so unfair.

Disgusting Power Trippers

Life offers a balance of torment and fun, maybe it's a way of reminding us that life never stops in one corner that from time to time we have to move around, find our place where we could fit in and live a kind of existence we always wanted and not based on how others viewed us. We should never live based on someone's expectation, we will be drowned with its complexities.

It's a beautiful journey, it evolves continuously and we're stupid if we are just contented with what's being offered at the moment. We have to seize it while it's there, but it does not mean we have to stop chasing our dreams and the quest of fulfillment.

Life is a work in progress, opportunities are eternal, therefore, we will not limit ourselves to what's being there because there are lots of beautiful things waiting to be discovered. Life is an adventure remember? And we are here to enjoy the exploits.

I don't want to limit myself in a place where I know I would never attain the kind of fulfillment I am dreaming. I want to find my niche, I know it's just somewhere, all I have to do is continue chasing it.

Sometimes, there are moments in a day where I would really wanna escape to loosen up and avoid all the noises, irritation and angst. It's very toxic to always encounter these scenes. I'm very tired dealing with irrational, rude people. I might not be able to stretch my patience.

The most agonizing part of the day is being surrounded with bloody tyrants, rude and cruel people whose main job in life is to do power tripping. Oh God why these people exist? They should be sent to the battle ground of ISIS to teach them a hard lesson.

Power trippers are emotional vampires who are extraordinarily disgusting, physically and emotionally draining. Sad to say they are rampant and the most miserable reality is, these bloody vultures often surround us.

Who are power trippers?
  • Obviously those who power trip
  • Too ambitious and aggressive to hold powers
  • Painfully insecure people who are severely insensitive and downright rude
  • Insecure people are those who did not know who they really are despite stellar achievement and success
  • Those who ridiculously assumed themselves they are superiors
  • As if they own you, insisting to follow their commands at all cost
  • As if people are at their mercy all the time
  • Those who love to show off themselves they are expert
  • Their ego is as huge as the planet Jupiter
  • They give orders rather than instructions
  • Those who never respected your preferences
  • Autocratic, demanding, irrational who never accept reasons
  • They often judged you with your shortcomings
  • They never give you freedom to work on what you want
  • Close minded people who felt their opinions are better than anybody else
  • Unimaginable bastard, arrogant, bully, rude, ruthless, who are overconfident with their abilities, stomping down on others.
Who are Emotional Vampires?
  • Same as power trippers, but they run havoc more on your emotional state.
  • They will drain you emotionally and want you to take part of their miseries
  • All you hear from them are complains and criticism.
  • They would never give way to your comfort, stacking you with things you are not comfortable doing.
  • They are insistent with their wants without respecting your choices and preferences.
  • Constantly dishing you with pressure

When you feel that your point is not heard accordingly and your freedom seems curtailed and you're being drag to do things you know would not take you anywhere, it's pointless to exert effort for defense, so a grim silence is necessary to save a little decency. I hate the treatment, I felt very suffocated and tortured.

One way or another I am on the verge of shouting "I RESENTED YOU", "YOU DID NOT OWN ME", "I HATE YOU!!" and "YOU ARE STUPID FOR RULING ME", but I am a civilized person and I don't want to go down to the level of a moron, so I held my tongue.

And the best recourse to do is say nothing, keep my silence, avoid the presence, and lift my angst to God.

Whole Wheat Pancake

Taking a break from editing my Royal book!

And take a trip to the kitchen to bake pancake for my snacks hehe! I considered this as a tea food since the creamy feel complimented the bitter taste of Green Tea which I regularly indulged.

Yesterday, I bought a pack of Whole Wheat pancake mix because today I will be working whole day for my book so I thought a healthy snack break will help me get through the rigorous hours of book editing and polishing.

After taking breakfast I began preparing the ingredients. One of the best thing I always look forward when baking goodies is the mixing stage because I love the sweet aroma of the mixture and you know I have this weirdness in me, I love to taste the raw mixture of baking ingredients yum!

Whole Wheat pancake mix! Healthy living :-D

I used to witness my two grandmothers baking and cooking native delicacies, they were very expert in inventing recipes and preparing delicacies so I would sit in front of them while they prepared the ingredients. One of my favorites was my grandmother's home-made bread and donut, when she would not look on the kneaded dough, I would sneak a few roll and ate it, I enjoyed this little naughtiness haha!

So now, I am baking my own goodies!

And I want to be healthy so I chose this pack of Whole Wheat pancake mix! Here's how I made my version of this home-made pancake. This mixture is very pure, I did not add water, wheew!

Pour the Whole Wheat pancake mix to the bowl  then add the remaining ingredients

Ingredients:

1 pack of Whole Wheat pancake mix (180g)
1 piece of Egg
1 cartoon of All-purpose Cream (120g)
4 Teaspoons of Brown Sugar

Stir and mix the ingredients well until smoothen. Grease the pan with cooking oil and pour the mixture

Procedure:

1. Pour the pancake mix to the bowl
2. Add the all-purpose cream
3. Crack eggs and add to the mixture
4. Stir the ingredients until smoothen. Set aside
5. Pre-heat the oven, set the timer to 10 minutes
6. Grease a regular-sized pan with cooking oil to prevent the mixture from sticking
7. Pour the pancake mixture to the pan
8. Bake for 15 minutes
9. Puff! Take it from the oven and let it cool!

Chananan! The finish product sooo yummy!
Whole Wheat Pancake for a hungry tummy :-D

I only prepared this healthy yummy snack goodies for less than one hour. I usually have my tea break in the morning before lunch and this pancake version is a perfect partner for my Green Tea break habit. But I sip Green Tea before I finish baking the pancake haha! Good that I bought one bottle of Vitamilk Energy. I love Vitamilk because it is made from soya which is another healthy option.

While Waiting for Soulmate

When time becomes very confusing and circumstances seem mind-blowing, I never force myself to analyze things and dig my brain with incomprehensible explanations, instead I will just sit beside the window, throw my stare at the vivid horizon, listen to the soft melody of the whistling leaves, empty my mind with scruffy thoughts and thank God for providing me a sense of serenity.

And still when silence becomes deafening and would never pacify my confused spirit, I would find comfort reading inspirational quotes and verses in the bible. And think about life in the correct sense of the word and keep on with my faith and believe that yes, God’s time is always perfect.

It might be difficult to understand His message at the moment, but everything that happens has reasons and it’s always for the best. We can never go wrong with God’s grace and love. He always makes things possible and I believe He has better plans for everyone, and for me, grander than what I always expected, more beautiful than what I always imagined.

When everything seems unbearable and incomprehensible, I always seek peace in deepest solitude and allowed my system to be comforted with these beautiful verses in the bible.

From Ecclesiastes 3:1-15

1  Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.
2 He sets the time for birth and the time for death, the time for planting and the time for pulling up,
3 The time for killing and the time for healing, the time for tearing down and the time for building.
4 He sets the time for sorrow and the time for joy, the time for mourning and the time for dancing,
5 The time for making love and the time for not making love, the time for kissing and the time for not kissing.
6 He sets the time for finding and the time for losing, the time for saving and the time for throwing away,
7 The time for tearing and the time for mending, the time for silence and the time for talk.
8 He sets the time for love and the time for hate, the time for war and the time for peace.
9 What do we gain from all our work?
10 I know the heavy burdens that God has laid on us.
11 He has set the right time for everything. He has given us a desire to know the future, but never gives us the satisfaction of fully understanding what he does.
12 So I realized that all we can do is be happy and do the best we can while we are still alive.
13 All of us should eat and drink and enjoy what we have worked for. It is God's gift.
14 I know that everything God does will last forever. You can't add anything to it or take anything away from it. And one thing God does is to make us stand in awe of him.
15 Whatever happens or can happen has already happened before. God makes the same thing happen again and again.
