My best and worst of 2011

I am having a new year countdown now. The clock sets at 12:00 noon. So before the Year of the Water Dragon makes a grand entrance, I want to spend a little time thinking and looking back what are the best and worst things I witnessed and experienced in 2011.

BEST THINGS:

1.  Blessings - I received lots of blessings this year. Some of the things I fervently asked for the past three years were granted by God. I am always in excellent health condition and none of my parents or siblings got ill. The power of prayers really works. So keep praying. I received good income from my online job too!

2. Travel - I was able to go to the Monastery of the Benedictine monks in Bukidnon during our retreat, such a wonderful place to visit. The environment is so cool and quiet, strongly reminded me of my life in the province. Was able to visit the popular tourist spots of my home province: Enchanted River in Hinatuan and Tinuy an Falls in Bislig.

3. Cool Environment - The surrounding in the city I lived is free from troubles and calamities. Such a fascinating environment.

4. Friendship - I gained more friends this year. I developed close bonds with some great people: Kathy, Juvy, Lucy (my classmate in the graduate school). Two of the people I truly missed: Helen and Rowie, visited Davao and we had a great bonding, though separately. Helen came over last June and she is always as generous as ever, she brought me a cute, expensive blouse hehe. Rowie arrived in September and we spent time talking and sharing good things in life. Kathy has given me so much opportunities to explore my skills, I spent my birthday with her last April, she introduced me to the goodness and yummy world of cafe hopping and all the foods I'd never eaten before (hehe) and we had so many wonderful moments talking about our passion in internet marketing, her friendship is truly one of the best blessings in life.

5. Generosity - This rarely happens but I am super lucky to have one person in my small circle who is extremely generous, so kind and gentle, who never forget to share blessings and....yes everything..the foods, the time spent talking and chatting...a person whom I can truly express what's on my mind, whom I can freely wail and throw tantrums, whom I am comfortable expressing my opinion even the most notorious idea. The generosity shown to me is so extraordinary. Uhmmm how do I say  it?Ahhh something like"I know you would give me your shirt off your back if I would ask"--thing like that, ready to give and share whatever is there and that's what genuine kindness is all about. The christmas present I received was so perfect because it was exactly what I wanted in life....so touching. Thank you so much for your incredible compassion through all these years, you are always a great blessing from God. Words cannot express the gratitude I felt. I truly appreciated everything about you, from here to eternity hehe!May you will be blessed with excellent health, wealth and success you've been dreaming and may God will bless you more with plenty of resources in life ^____^

6. I am still single - Yeah, this might sounds so strange to other people who are scrambling and dying to get married, but I treated my singlehood as one of the best gifts from God. You know why? It's because I can still plan what's best for my life, what road to take and where I should be heading. It allows me plenty of freedom to explore the world, to discover the other side of life, to improve myself, to develop whatever talent God has given to me, to redirect my focus. I can still have terrific amount of time reorganizing my life and accomplishing all the task I need to finish before settling down. I want to travel to a foreign land before setting down. Maybe that's the best reason why God allowed me to remain unattached because I still have so many things to accomplish, so many dreams to fulfill that if I will get married might remain unattainable. You know I already stop dreaming about Mr. Right, what I am thinking right now is to marry Mr. Allright..that's more realistic and exciting. You see? Singlehood is a great blessing that should be appreciated and not a thing to mope about. Thank God! ^___^

7. Beloved Pope's memorabilia - I was able to visit the exhibit of the Blessed Pope John Paul II relics and memorabilia at John Paul II College of Davao and that was truly fascinating and fulfilling. He was one of my favorite world figures and having seen his personal belongings is like a grand treat of a lifetime.

WORST/SAD THINGS:

1. Disaster - News of calamities is always distressing and this year, the world is battered with so much disaster and catastrophe.

2. Death of Grace - If there's one saddest thing I ever experienced in my life this year, it was the passing of one of my friends, Grace Rosello. Until now, her death shocked me. She was really a good friend. Though death is inevitable, hearing someone close succumbed to a disease is always upsetting. Her death allowed me to think and reflect about myself, about my journey, of how unpredictable life is.

3. Death of Steve Jobs - The creative genius who partly changed the world of communication. His death was a major blow. The apple's CEO and the most creative visionary and innovator of our time was truly an inspiring man and the world still needs him badly, but of course I have to accept the fact that God has His own reason why He took him early. He was the man who chose to think differently and his unique ingenuity contributed largely to modern electronic gadgets evolution. No question about it.

4. The wedding of Prince William - When he was still a young boy and his mother was still alive, I was hoping he would follow what his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, did when she decided to take Prince Philip as her husband. Marrying into the same circle is always crucial in the survival of the mystic of the crown, taking a commoner woman as a wife with no aristocratic background is more than a disaster. When William decided to marry this woman from a working stock (not a middle class oh please!) it eroded the last strand of prestige of the British crown. Privately, it is being whispered in the royal circle, that the royal family was not all amused of having Kate as the newest member of their elite clan. William could have been chosen to marry someone else from the upper class. I saw the video of the royal family attending the Church service at Sandringham last Christmas and Kate was virtually ignored by the royal family and she was literally shoved by some of the royals (Princess Eugenie of York in particular).

5. Failed to continue my French lesson - This is one of the saddest and frustrating things that happened in 2011. I always wanted to learn at least one more language and I am trying hard to study French through audio tutorials but due to my busy schedule, I wasn't able to finish it. I want to go back to the basic this year.

Don't forget to acknowledge the graces and blessings you received from God and don't forget to express your appreciation and gratitude to the people who made your days in 2011 very wonderful and fulfilling.

Happy New Year to all!God speed.

Doomsday?

One day more to go and 2011 will finally bid goodbye and now we will be entering the year which most fake visionaries, including one movie, predict the world will meet its tragic end.

Of course most Catholics, including me, dismissed it as pure hogwash!Baloney!

I am unfazed with all those signs they claimed, (yahoo news even published one article about these signs like global warming, strong solar flares affecting communication, giant asteroids closely passing dangesrously to earth, pole shift, strong volcanic eruptions, tsunami, typhoons, etc.) maybe we are just being abusive to the mother earth, prompting terrible calamities, hammering the world constantly with disastrous occurrences.

But anyway, though I firmly believed the mother earth would never come to an end, I could not deny the fact that global warming is happening, but this does not mean we will going to perish next year, I think global warming is a reality as the earth ages.

When I returned home last Christmas, I was appalled to find out that our place is about to be shrouded by the sea, you know the sea water is closely edging us out from the town, the coastline beginning to appear so wide and the houses and coconut trees at seaside were washed out by the waves. And oh, the waves, according to my mother become more and more fierce and aggressive, tearing the coastline like monsters and the pacific ocean released gigantic waves at high tide even without storm.

One Christmas morning after breakfast, I went to the seaside to breath fresh air and stare at the pacific ocean and wait for the sunshine to kiss the sea water ^____^
I also wait for the waves to come to the shore to chase it.hehe. ---  my favorite past time when I was still a kid
Watching the shimmering sunshine magnified like a silver thread to the sea water is always a soothing relief

On the Christmas morning, I went to the seaside near our house and so horrified to see how the area was ravaged by the raging waves. In fact when I went there, it was low tide but the sea produced terrible waves, I just sit beside the sea wall with my brother and stared at the beautiful horizon that divide the water and the sky, the shimmering rays of the sunshine magnified to the water creating a silver thread that sparkle beneath the moving waves, it was terrific, I love it when I see the magical sunshine rays kissed the sea water, such a soothing view, it calmed my spirit.
The long coastline at the back of our house where I used to spend my free time
Strong evidence of global warming--rising sea level!
The sea frequently produced gigantic waves tearing the seaside terribly, coconut trees and houses were being washed out and if not for the sea wall, the waves might come to our kitchen hehehe
Bubbles, lots of bubbles

I walked there for a while, running before the waves just like what I used to do when I was still a kid, I run at the long coastline and breath fresh air, but I could feel the warm temperature of the environment even it was still morning and the whole surrounding seemed to be a dead nature. The sea becomes wider and wider and the mere look at the Pacific Ocean made me think if doomsday is coming near.

Marihatag seaside before

But despite all these bad things in life and what fake visionaries claimed, I don't believe the world will ever end by 2012. My God!No one knows exactly the "timeline". In fact, our faith always told us to "prepare" for the second coming of Christ because we will never know when it will happen. Not even scientists or other learned people can accurately predict the end of the world through disasters and catastrophes. Only God knows when will this thing happen.

The world will never perish, but human will. Everybody has to die. What we need to do is just simply take care and be a good steward to the mother earth. Global warming is happening because of human activities. Climate change, rising temperature of the mother earth (which triggers the erosion of glacier), rising sea level, carbon emissions, all these things contribute to global warming. Though we cannot prevent the warming of the earth, we can at least slow it down or minimize its effect.

How to do it? Here are valuable tips from Yahoo news:

1. Avoid using washing machine. Or if you use it switch it to 30 degrees centigrade. It can save at least 40% of electrical energy (thank God I have no money to buy a washing machine ^___^)

2. Go Online. As the modern world ushers us to a high technology era, utilizing what is being offered by online  transactions is more ideal than doing it manually. It can save tons of papers. More developed countries are now turning to online transaction to save time, effort and expenses.

3. Conserve Energy - Turn off unnecessary home appliances. Microwave ovens, ranges, electric kettle, electric gas stoves, heater, are unnecessary stuff, you can cook, heat water or fry dishes in a natural way. Couch potatoes (people who watched television endlessly, day and night) should know they are wasting money and energy. Learn to cut back hours of watching television and turn it off when not in use.

4. Collect rainwater. Set up a large bucket in your garden or near your kitchen to collect rainwater to be used in watering your plants, washing the kitchen sink, car, flushing the toilet and other household cleaning necessities. This can save good amount of energy and you will be spared from paying mounting water bills.

5. No to plastic bags. According to Yahoo news, plastic bags are massive eco-villains.Their production contributes to air pollution and lots of energy consumption. Use eco-friendly bags made from fibers instead.

6. Plant your own food. This is why I love going back home because I can eat fresh foods. Grow vegetables, spices and fruits in your garden or in your farm if you have one. It allows you to eat natural foods free from pesticides and chemicals, plus it helps the environment becomes cooler and fresher.

7. Keep mobile phones longer. Okay, most people might disagree with this tip, but according to yahoo, this is one of the most practical ways to save from electrical waste, so try not to replace your mobile phones every year.

8. Go meat free. At least one finding from the United Nation Food and Agricultural Organization said that grazing livestock largely contributes to today's most serious environmental problems. By avoiding meat, you will not only spared from acquiring health troubles, but also help reduce carbon emission.

Okay, there you go. By putting these tips into practice we can truly save the mother earth and make the environment a better place to live in for the next couple of years, or even centuries...

The Best Laptop Brand

This is a special report for the best laptop brands for 2011 in the market evaluated, reviewed and rated by technology experts. In all the review sites I'd visited, there's only one brand that consistently topped the evaluation and reviews list: APPLE

While still moping the death of Steve Jobs, I'm relieved to hear that the company he co-founded (with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne) in 1976 and the products he innovated down through all these years performed well in the electronic industry.

For the past 11 years, since he rescued Apple from shrinking in the middle part of 1990s, the company's status soared high and went on to edge out Sony of being the undisputed leader in technological innovation. Steve Jobs's leadership and his shrewd management and marketing style made Apple the most admired company in the world with products that are hard to emulate.

The year 2011 brought many uncertainties to Apple as its visionary leader passed away, the stock slightly went down and analysts were skeptic if the company could sustain its success and growth without the magical touch of Steve Jobs, but there's good news for the company too. Its products' positioning continued to dominate the electronic market.

Apple MacBook Pro MC721LL/A 15.4-Inch Laptop

When Jobs was still alive he talked endlessly how he wanted the company to maintain its admirable reputation of always be the FIRST in all aspect of innovation. Now, his vision is coming to reality.

Here, let's take a look how technology experts came up with the decision of consistently naming Apple the best laptop brand for two straight years.

From Laptopmag.com

"The past year has been very good to Apple. From the sleek, ultra-thin MacBook Airs to the powerful new MacBook Pros, the company has continued to push the envelope in terms of design, [innovation] and performance. Comprehensive tech support both and best-in-class software round out the experience, making Apple the obvious first-place brand"

How they reviewed:

Apple got 21 points out of 25 in a product review conducted by the experts from Laptopmag.com. The brand, with five new models being reviewed, notched a very impressive score in this category. MacBook Pros and MacBook Air 13-inch went on to become the Editor's Choice Winners. The site revealed that they gave MacBook Air 13-inch a near-perfect score because of its superb design, long battery life, great ergonomics, speedy SSD and fantastic graphics performance.

Product Design:

Apple got an amazing perfect score of 5 points in this category. How the experts came up with this perfect score? Apple MacBook, MacAir and MacPro product lines possess what seemed to be lacking with other brands: TIMELESS ELEGANCE. Apple really never failed to amaze and surprise the public with its ingenuity and uniqueness!

Keypads/Touchpads:

Apple got 13 out of 15 points in this category. The company was the first to integrate a mouse button to its  glass touchpad which remains the fantastic and magnificent standard for accuracy and comfort.

Technology Support:

Support and services of Apple really did their job well. No wonder the company successfully achieved and gathered loyal customers through all these years. According to laptopmag.com when they called Apple for support, an associate went through step by step solutions and sent them an email with additional information. The Genius Bar of the Apple store, which no other brands in the market offered, is very helpful and provides convenience to customers.

Software:

According to analysts and experts in the electronic industry, when a certain brand possesses an excellent software package, that brand would be very perfect. Why? Because software is the most crucial aspect of technology and one of the most important components. And Apple does it! In this category, the brand got a perfect score of 10, no other brand ever achieved this score so far. Apple offers one of the best standard of software packages. According to laptopmag. the iLife suite that comes with every Mac let users tackle everything from photo and video editing to learning how to play an instrument. Plus several powerful tools built into the Mac OSX Snow Leopard OS.

Innovation:

With its high quality products and elite software packages and design, it's no surprising that Apple got a perfect score in the Innovation category. In a Fortune magazine's report, the reason why Apple stayed number one as World's Most Admired Company is because its innovation is fantastically great! When talking about innovation, there's no other thing that defines this word perfectly than MacBook Pros and everybody is dreaming to own this very elegant and classy product (including me). MacBook Pro is the first laptop to feature thunderbolt technology for lightning-fast data transfers.

Customer Satisfaction:

With all these excellent tools, design, innovation and extraordinary elegance that Apple possesses, it's not surprising that the brand got a perfect score in a customer satisfaction area. No question about it.

Is She Barren?

Kate Middleton (I just love calling her with her birth name than Duchess of Cambridge) must concede to the fact that her life is no longer hers.

The moment she accepted her fate to be with Prince William, she must understand the reality that life in royalty is no longer private. Now the public treated her just like a commodity, debating her new clothes, her new shoes and endlessly talking about the next fashion she will be embracing on her next public appearance. I am wondering if she can really handle the stress and tension in the future. Well, I hope she can.

Early this year, people could not wait to see her walk-down-the-aisle at Westminster Abbey, debates include the speculations of what design of bridal dress she will be wearing, who will design it and how the gown would look like in her slim figure. Then came the never-ending talk of where the couple would spend their honeymoon. Then the US and Canada joint tour where the public closely followed her hairstyle, the number of clothes she wore and the recycled jeans she donned.

Few months later, the people wanted her to get pregnant. Speculations of whether she is pregnant or not, or what months her belly would swell, dominated the tabloid. Andrew Morton, the biographer of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, even went on to say that Kate "must" get pregnant this year, as if she is an automatic robot, or else she will be defying the royal tradition of getting pregnant within the year of marriage. Then the month of December came. With no sign of pregnancy or whatsoever.

Is Kate getting pressured with all these nonsense expectations from her as if she is not a human being? Why on earth people pushed her to get pregnant as if she is nothing but a brood mare, that's so ridiculous to think. But that's the reality of being in the royal spotlight. Diana had experienced it in the past which she pronounced as "unbearable". Kate can handle it since she had been with Prince William longer than Diana with Charles.

But yes, me too, is wondering why she is still not pregnant after eight months of marriage. Is she barren? Next year, around February, Prince William will be dispatched to Falkland in Argentina for six weeks and Kate will be left behind. So it is impossible for her to get pregnant around that time. If she is barren, well, I doubt if William will follow what King Henry VIII had done to Catherine of Aragon---divorcing her in order to find a new wife that could give him an heir. Anyway, Prince Harry is next in line.
